Life threw Fandi many curve balls, but through it all, he never faltered. He always says, “The humble don’t stumble.” His kindness and respect for others form the echoes of his illustrious career. He has never waned in his passion for football, taken for granted the opportunities he has received or forgotten his humble beginnings. His greatest desire is to be remembered as an ordinary person paying it forward to a new generation of footballers. It was essential to capture the echoes of his story. The echoes that he has lent to Singapore’s social identity. It was most fitting to start with the way the echoes of Fandi led to this book.
